Newlyweds Share Their Wedding Regrets (So You Can Learn From Their Mistakes!)

This was a quote in an online forum I thought was interesting.

No wedding is absolutely perfect. When we asked newlyweds and... the less newly wed to share their biggest wedding day woes with us, a few common threads started to emerge. Here's what we learned:

1. Get It On Film
So many brides told us they wished they’d sprung for a videographer, or given their wedding photographer more specific directions. Your wedding will be RIFE with special moments - make sure you capture as many as possible!

"My husband and I really regret not recording the speeches. They were so loving and beautiful, we were moved to tears again and again! It's one of the best memories I have of that day and I wish we had a better record of all the kind things our family and friends had to say. A few gave us their typed notes but most strayed and added in some great anecdotes. Nothing about hair/makeup/venue or cakes mattered to me once I realized there were so many people there who loved us so much!" - Isabella

2. Beauty Accidents Happen
Wind, rain, and acts of God can seriously undo your updo. When you’re contemplating your wedding hairstyle, consider the locale, temp, and time of year. ALSO - the week of/day of your wedding is not an awesome time to try exciting new beauty treatments for the first time.

"My biggest mistake? Thinking my hair would actually cooperate and not require 3.5 hours to do so, effectively ruining photo happy time." - Christen

"My wedding was on the beach. It was gorgeous but there were strong winds so my Kardashian curls turned to a frizzy, curl-less disaster AND my veil flew out. Luckily the ceremony was over when it happened.... But you can see my hair get progressively worse in the pix!" - Jessica

3. Budget Your Time
Three words, ladies. HAIR AND MAKEUP. Too many wedding timelines get derailed when brides don’t budget enough time for wedding prep. Don’t let the primping get the best of your special day!

"I honestly think the one and only thing I would change would be starting hair/make-up for the ladies earlier, so we could have done more bride+bridesmaids photos. That said, I love the few we did get, and that is the *ONLY* thing I would change!" - Sean

4. Don’t Succumb To Peer Pressure
So many brides felt their wedding suffered because they’d been duped into letting friends or friends of friends handle important wedding services. “Friendors” can be fab...but they can also be a big flop.

"I'd have written contracts for services provided. Just because they're your friends doesn't mean you don't need one. I'm still waiting for the dvd of our ceremony 13 mos later with no way of getting my money or the video footage." - Jennifer

Bridal Expo at Springfield House, Dural

Every month at a fantastic venue called Springfield House, they have a bridal expo of sorts. A night when all prospective Brides and Grooms can go to Springfield and see the venue dressed, and on those occasions they also have a few vendors, like me for photography, Brown Sugar Cakes, Carla from Elegant invites, Ann Daly Wedding celebrant, a video guy and it is a really nice venue and opportunity to have a no pressure meet and greet with prospective couples. This was my stand.

Timeline Wedding Brochure and Price List

Over the last few weeks whilst I have been recovering from surgery, I have been thinking about my wedding photography packages and pricing, and about improving the branding presentation of brochures etc which were previously a little tired. Elizabeth and Peter Feb 2011

It has been a while since I posted a wedding here on the blog, and thought it was about time I did so. I had the opportunity to get to know Elizabeth and Peter and could not have been more pleased to have been able to photograph their special day two weeks ago. It was at the end of a hot week and the only day that rained. It prevented me from taking shots of the wedding cars and some of the establishing shots I wanted to but what it did provide, was the opportunity to go to Martin place where we were able to really utilise aspects that were close to give some unique and special images with character. I am very pleased with the look and feel of them and really love being able to contribute to people's lives in such a special way. They are a wonderful couple and I just know they are going to have a lovely future together.

Khim & Koki Oct 2010

These pictures are from the Wedding of Khim and Koki. Their wedding was a fun and happy occasion, and I was very happy to be a small part of preserving their memories. It was a combination of traditional asian ceremonies and a regular wedding. It was fascinating watching the traditional aspects with the fun and warmth that passed between families at the celebration and union, of not just two people, but two great families. I loved the colour, the many people, all of whom wanted lots of pictures! This wedding will hold special memories for me, and I can just see the dedication and love they have for each other. I wish them many wonderful years together.

Rachael & Stuart March 2010

This was one very organised wedding, everything was timed and planned and went according to the script. I had a lot of fun at this wedding as the bridal party were so accomodating and charming. Rachael had two main dreams in life she said, to be the perfect bride and to go to Disneyland, and in the same week she achieved both dreams. They had the wedding ceremony in a great church in Meadowbank in Sydney and the location shots and reception were at a wonderful venue in Kenthurst / Dural in the North West of Sydney at The Allegro Function centre. It is a truly magical place both photographically and in terms of their hospitality from the owner / manager right through the staff. I am very proud of all the wedding images I ever photograph and feel very proud to add these images to my portfolio. I wish Rachael and Stu a wonderful life together, they are a great couple. Lastly, if you look closely on the Queen of hearts playing cards you will see Rachael's face! and also on the flowers and card that is attached, these were sent by Stu to Rachael and have Stu's great pet dog on there as well! Both which were added by me of course, but make a very personal touch to the pictures.

Sarah & Scott - March 2010

I have completed the photos for Sarah and Scott and thought I would post them here. What a wonderful wedding and couple. I was so very pleased to be able to create these memories for them. I had a lot of fun here at this wedding. I have known Sarah's mother Lynn for quite a long time and was honoured when I was approached to cover this wedding. Having met Sarah 2-3 times previously I enjoyed the challenge of trying to create images that both were beautiful and images that told a story about Sarah & Scott. I am very pleased with them and thank them for choosing me for this event.

Kate & Ben January 2010

Kate & Ben are a tremendous couple who I have really come to respect and admire. kate is one of those rare people who knows exactly what she wants and is determined to get it! She was an absolutely pleasure to work with. I have found over many years and many weddings that there are few times where everything is always perfect, but kate did not at any time appear to be stressed or troubled by the details of the day and it all went to plan. Ben was a laid back guy who was also a pleasure to be around. Kate's cousin Kyla was also assisting in taking some images on the day and I really came to appreciate her as well. This was a terrific wedding and I am very grateful to have been of service to them. I know that they have a very bright future ahead.

I had been asked to cover Tani (Catania) & Erick's wedding from Erick's sisters wedding that I had covered where both Tani and Erick were in the bridal party. They were happy and impressed with the way I intereacted and the quality of the images and so they booked me. I was very grateful. I thought they were and are, a striking couple who were very devoted to each other. It was a wonderful wedding and one that I will not forget for some time. The venue, the day and the setting were all conducive and magical. There are so many things I enjoyed about this wedding, and it was all very good. Laura & Krzysztof October '09

This was the wedding of two very special people. I have known Laura for several years and have the highest regard for her professionalism, friendship and kindness. When she told me of her engagement and subsequent wedding plans to Krys, and that she wanted me to cover it photographically for her I was truly honoured. From their engagement party shots, a couple which I have included here below, to their pre wedding pictures down at Long Reef beach in Sydney, some also included below, to their actual wedding day it has been a wonderful experience for me. I have enjoyed it so very much. trying to capture the rich emotion and personalities of them both. It is very evident to me and everyone who knows them that they are besotted with each other, they simply are a perfect match. The pictures down at the D'Albora Marina's at Cabarita were taken around the boat that was until recently owned by a true gentleman Steve, Laura's father. He wasnt able to share the day with us in person, but his presence was certainly felt there on this very special day. The future ahead for Laura & Krystof is a bright one, full of fun and laughter. I know they will have a great life together. Thanks for choosing me to cover your special day!! God bless you both!

Katherine & Brendan are such a fun couple. I had a lot of wonderful moments at this wedding it would be hard to list them all. The weather was so co-operative and lovely, the light was generous and the company was tremendous. It did not dawn on me for some time that Katherine's parents even taught at my High School, and I even saw my wonderful Biology teacher at the wedding and reception. From the wedding in All Saints Church in Parramatta to the lovely ambience of yesteryear at Old Government House in Parramatta, Australia's oldest Vice-regal residence since 1812, the history and the setting were perfect. The hospitality, the food, and the guests all blended together for what will be for me, a very memorable wedding. The speeches were touching and genuine. Dee, the father of the groom, charged the newly weds to not live with fear, and never be afraid to reach for your dreams and goals. He said they should "Trust the process of life and go forward". Sage advice and exactly what we all needed to hear and remember. All the best to the both of you, I sense a very big future for you. Thank you for choosing me to cover your beautiful wedding.
